Gunbarrel Veterinary Clinic, located north of Boulder, Colorado, was awarded Veterinary Economics Hospital of the Year Merit Award in 2005. Built to replace an outdated facility and integrate with the agrarian context of the site, this clinic features natural daylighting, low to no maintenance finishes, radiant floor heating and rainwater catchment cisterns for landscape irrigation. An inviting and comfortable waiting area is accented by wood reclaimed from the old barn structure on site. An open floor plan in the treatment room allows staff an unobstructed view throughout the primary work area. Exam, treatment, pharmacy and lab provide an acoustic buffer between the reception area and kennels and wards.
